Delamination Behavior of Spliced Fiber Metal Laminates.. Impact Behaviour of Sandwich GFRP-Foam major modes of failures are delamination between the face composites consisting of surface modified glass fibres PDF format. Recent research has shown that an effective method to improve the delamination resistance of polymer composites is to incorporate nanoparticles such as nanoclay and carbon nanotube to the polymer matrix. Composites, whether reinforced with particles, fibres or filaments are prone (in some cases) to interfacial failure (delamination and/or fracture). The Shuttle Reinforced Carbon-Carbon (RCC) leading edge (Figure 1) is a brittle composite system which is subject to cracking and delamination from foreign debris and other impacts. Some of these failure modes include fibre breakage, delaminations in addition to other patterns of crack growth not seen in metallic parts. Ph.D.: Multiscale simulation of delamination in composite laminates (supervised by Olivier Allix and Pierre Gosselet at LMT Cachan). A strategy is presented for the simulation of delamination in Fiber Metal Laminates. GENOA progressive failure analysis (PFA) for 1.0 inch and 1.5 inch three-point bending specimens revealed that the twospecimens exhibit different failure behavior prior to final failure (different delamination initiation and damage/fracture progression). This work makes use of the cohesive zone models developed in LMT Cachan by Prof. The aerospace industry is one example of the increased use of composites, whilst the advantages of such are clear it is of critical importance to be aware of any potential dangers.
